Are Ceramic Roof Tiles Effective For Temperature Control?

Published

on

Ceramic roof tiles are becoming more and more popular as a roof tiling solution that are heat resistant. Ceramic roof tile is similar to ceramic tiles flooring, but with a slight difference in purpose.  You would expect ceramic floor tiles of living room to keep your feet cool, but ceramic roof tiles will keep your room cool. Regular ceramic tiles are not as good as ceramic roof tiles in controlling the temperature, especially where summers are very hot. Some of the homeowners have also chosen to use ceramic walls cladding. However, the cost and benefit of this solution seems low. One of the better alternatives to regular ceramic tiles is ceramic roof SRI (solar reflector index) tiles.

These tiles are the result of a sophisticated glazing process. They naturally cool the room and help to reduce the load on the external cooling appliances such as your AC or cooler. Now imagine saving electricity bills while you’re lounging in the cool comfort of your home. Put them on your terrace or balcony or exterior walls exposed to the sun and they’ll last for years.

How do cool roof tiles work?

The cool roof tiles are made with a glaze that gives them enhanced reflectance and evaporation. This means that cool roof tiles absorb almost all the sun’s rays and reflect the heat back into the air. The tiles remain cooler than the building’s normal surface as the base becomes cooler. This means that cool roofs are a great option for buildings in hotter climates. They can help keep the inside of the building comfortable. They are also a great way to reduce your consumption of energy. Cool roof tiles help you save money on your electricity bill. They can also help you reduce your cooling needs during hot weather. Because cool roof tiles are available in a variety of styles and colors, they can easily match any design or format. You can use cool roof tiles in residential and commercial buildings.

What are its benefits?

A Cool Roof keeps the roof cooler and uses less energy. On average, a Cool Roof can reduce a property owner’s total cooling costs by 7 to 15% over time. Another cool feature of a Cool Roof is its environmental benefits. Cool Roof tiles help reduce smog, reduce CO2 emissions, reduce urban heat islands and mitigate global warming.

Ceramic tiles Vs Vitrified tiles

Ceramic tiles: They have low water absorption, high durability under humid conditions but require a glaze. They are best for interior wall and floor use. However, they have low mechanical strength (weight bearing capacity.). They should be glazed for floor applications. Ceramic Wall Tiles have lower rate of scratches, abrasions, and staining, are found more common, and are cheaper.

Vitrified tiles: A vitrified tile has very low level of water absorption and has lesser porosity. This makes it more durable in humid and wet conditions. It is best for open walls, floors (pavements and patios) and terraces. The material strength allows for a better capacity for weight bearing. The special glaze allows the tile to reflect the sunlight better and radiate heat more efficiently than other tiles. It is also highly resistant to scratches, staining and abrasion. It is more expensive and only available for premium applications.
