How to Install a Door?

Installing doors can be a complicated task if you do not have the appropriate information before starting the project. With a few tips and tricks, as well as the knowledge of the tools you can use, you will be able to make a successful project. For high performance work you can also get the door service by visiting our website Texas Access Controls.

Here are two methods by which you can install a door easily:

Method No 1. Take Out the Old Door

Remove the caulking on the edge of the door. Cut it gently using the corner of a chisel, passing through the entire length of the frame. This way, you’ll remove less paint along with the edge.

Remove all edges around the door frame. You can do it carefully using a hammer and chisel. Place the chisel between the edge and the wall. Then gently hit it with the hammer. Finally, move the chisel back and forth to loosen the edge. Make the edge aside, either to replace it later or to discard it.

Be very cautious when removing the edge in case you plan to reuse it when you finish installing the door. A cracked or broken edge will result in a less professional looking door.

Remove any nails or screws that join the door frame to the wall crossbars. You might need an arch saw, a chisel, and a hammer to completely remove the nails and screws from the crossbars.

When you’ve removed all the nails and screws, close the door and pin it in the direction you removed the edge. The door should fall easily through the opening. It is recommended that you ask a family member or friend for help in this step, especially if the door and frame weigh heavily.

Method No 2. Prepare the Place and the Door

Check the wall opening. This will have the width and height of the frame. The opening should be 5 cm (2 inches) wider and 5.7 cm (2 1/2 inches) taller than the actual size of the door you will install. If it is very large or very small, you will have to correct it or it will be difficult for you to install it.

For example, if you want to install a door about 75 cm (30 inches) wide, you’ll need an opening of about 80 cm (32 inches). A normal-sized door, which measures 200 cm (80 inches), should have an opening about 210 cm (82 1/2 inches) high.

Prepare the door to install. Remove any packing or shipping band that is still attached to the door. You will also need to remove the sleeves on the sides of the doors. You’ll even need to remove the lock holder located on one side of the door. If you don’t, you’ll have a lot of problems later on.
