How to improve your score in Chemistry?

The subject of science requires the individual to do a lot of hard work and make immediate efforts to achieve a good score in the examination. With pandemics hitting the sector, LMS portals have been the only hope for conducting proper learning practices. Chemistry is that branch of science that entails relations, equations, diagrams, and formulas for a complete understanding of chemical structures and elaboration of the phenomena possible because of the reactions and their effects.

Some students in a survey we once conducted made a shocking statement that Chemistry is their favourite subject or the subject of interest, but they are unable to score well in the subject in the exams. After reading this, we decided to develop this article and help students understand where they are going wrong. Let’s start from the one piece of advice which you probably will be hearing from everyone for excelling in the subject of chemistry, it is essential that you pay attention to whatever is being taught to you or conveyed as information when you attended the lessons, lab or while you were online, attending lectures on the institute ERP.

All that the subject demands from you are:

  • A lot of patience.
  • Hard work is done regularly to make things work.

We have in this article discussed a few things which we believe are most appropriate to do when your target is to score the best marks in the subject.

Know the category of Chemistry

When you start your subject, you must devise a table or chart to write the different chemistry categories and define in short inside or below what this category includes.

There are three different disciples of this subject – Inorganic, organic and Physical Chemistry.

In the higher standards, you will find three teachers being allotted to you for the same subject, and all of them are conducting lectures on the different chemistry categories. Apart from these three major categories, two more types, i.e., Analytical Chemistry and Biochemistry.

From the word “Analytical” itself, one could understand that the discipline of chemistry will deal with the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the included chemical compounds.

And Biochemistry, from the word itself, is clear that it must deal with two aspects of science: biology and chemistry.

Read the topic to be taught before the class.

That might help you more when it comes to understanding the importance and requirement of the subject altogether. When you read things before, you already have an idea of the things your teacher is talking about. So, all you have to do is give a little more attention to the class, and concepts will become easy for you to grasp and retain in your mind.

The technique is popularly called Flipped or reverse classroom and has been one of the methods or strategies adopted by the toppers as per the survey conducted.

You should always hear what the successful student is saying but do not forget to make your strategy that fits your calibre and enhances your potential to achieve what you have always desired.

Always listen to your teachers

Teachers in the classroom try hard every time they have to teach something. They try and innovate different learning techniques and work on their style to make students understand something complex. Therefore, a person who is passionate about the profession will need you to get engaged with them to bring out the best results of the collaboration, and whatever advice or things he has to say to you; you must memorise and retain that thing in your memory for as long as possible.

Other things which you must do include making appropriate notes; it does not matter where you are writing these notes. You can write on notebooks or could type over your digital device and retain it for quite a long time. Also, we would encourage you to ask questions.

When you ask questions, it helps you clear your doubts and also helps you to make you understand the advanced learning technique, which again enhances your analytical and critical thinking.
