TIPS FOR CHOOSING CURTAINS
Tips for choosing curtains
When decorating our house we have to take into account several criteria such as the color of the wall of the furniture and also the color and style of the curtains since they will cover the entire window on the days that the sun bothers or They will also be thrown depending on their opacity. For this reason, it is very important to be correct when placing curtains and for them we leave you some tips to choose curtains that will be able to clarify all those doubts that arise at the time of purchase.
The shape of the window
The type of window, as well as the orientation of the room, are determining factors when choosing curtains. Maintain the ratio between the amount of fabric you use and the length of the window and think about how much sun and light comes in: do you need thick or rather transparent curtains?
Calculate the meters of fabric well
Calculator in hand, count the meters of fabric you need for your curtains: add 30 cm to the width of the window and then multiply the result by 2, 2.5 or 3, depending on whether you want a curtain with more or less gathers.
What is the ideal length?
In terms of lengths there are many trends. The most common is to add about 15 cm to the length of the window. However, if you like the curtains to drag like we do, add 10 cm more: this way they will rest on the floor. You already know that at El Mueble we like them like this …
A nice fall!
For drapes with a nice drape, opt for “heavy” fabrics, like heavy linens, wild silks, or chenillas. If you want to wear fresh fabrics, choose canvases, cotton hessian, or linens with silk.
For practical families: blinds!
If the window does not allow large curtains and you want a practical and light solution, the blinds will be your best allies. You can put them foldable (with rods), packet (without rods) or Roman (with draping).
Gain light with the curtains
To gain natural light, use sheer fabric to make the curtains. Its fabrics, vaporous and light (yarn, voile, open-weave linen …), are perfect to let in all the sunlight.
Dare to combine!
Large windows, balcony doors and bedroom windows are the best spaces where to use combinations: curtains with sheers (the most classic option), or drapes with blinds (more current). Think that the more views a window, the more prominence you will give, to it and to the views.
Tie-backs: useful and practical
Tiebacks are small pieces of wood or metal that, placed one third of the way up the curtain, create an elegant draping effect perfect for gathering up the curtains. They will always bring a classic and romantic touch.
Clamps: a charming accessory
In windows with double curtains, curtains lined with fleece or combinations of fall and curtain, use clamps (strips or cords that hold the curtain): they are ideal to collect the fabric and create an eye-catching effect, which highlights the windows.
